Kangana Ranaut has been busy promoting her upcoming political drama Emergency, which stands as one of her most ambitious projects to date. The film, which delves into a critical period of Indian history, features Ranaut in the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, focusing on the emergency era of the country. This controversial, period, marked by Gandhi’s “questionable” decisions, has sparked ongoing debates and scrutiny. As a result, Ranaut’s film has generated significant buzz and anticipation. Initially slated for a theatrical release on September 6, 2024, Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency now faces an unexpected delay. As we approach September, a surprising update has emerged regarding the film’s release. To our entertainment news readers, we would like to inform you that contrary to the planned date, the movie will not be hitting theatres this coming Friday. According to reports from the Indian Express, Emergency has yet to secure certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This information was first shared by Kangana Ranaut herself on her social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Recent developments reveal that Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Satyapal Jain informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the board’s priority is to consider the sentiments of all communities, especially the Sikh community. The CBFC has indicated that the process of granting certification will take additional time due to the sensitive nature of the film’s subject matter. This delay in obtaining the necessary clearance means that the release of Emergenc is postponed and won’t have its original September 6 date. The delay comes amid objections from several Sikh communities, who have expressed concerns about how their community will be portrayed in the film.

Earlier on social media, Kangana Ranaut had shared, “There are rumours doing the rounds that our film, Emergency, has been granted Censor certificate. This is not true. In fact, our film had been cleared but certification has been stopped because many threats were coming in. Death threats. The Censor Board members are getting threats. We are under pressure not to show the assassination of Indira Gandhi, not to show Bhindranwale, not to show the Punjab riots. I don’t know what will be left to show then… This is unbelievable for me and I am very sorry for the state of things in this country.”
