Abhinav Kashyap opens up about his complicated relationship with Anurag Kashyap, revealing why they are currently not talking. Read on to know more.
Filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap, following his recent comments about Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, has now opened up about his relationship with his brother and renowned director Anurag Kashyap. In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Abhinav explained that while the two brothers have been very close since childhood, they currently don’t speak to each other. He said this is a very emotional issue for him. They both attended the same boarding school (Gwalior) and then Delhi University. They later moved to Mumbai and began working in the same industry, which deepened their bond.
What did Abhinav Kashyap say about his relationship with Anurag Kashyap?
Abhinav said their relationship has always been honest and emotional. “It’s a personal matter between me and Anurag. A lot of people don’t know this, but we grew up together. We went to the same boarding school in Gwalior, the same college in Delhi University, and came to Mumbai around the same time. We worked in the same industry, so we are very close,” he said.
Abhinav also explained that many of the things that go viral on social media in Anurag Kashyap’s name are false or out of context. He said, “We know each other better than even our parents do. We argue often. He’s older, and when he feels I’ve made a mistake, he has even raised his hand at me. He’s beaten me many times, but I can’t hit him back because he’s my elder brother. The last time we spoke, I felt he was the one who made a mistake, so I stopped talking to him. That’s it.”
Abhinav Kashyap began his career as a writer in the Hindi film industry. He co-wrote the 2007 film Manorama Six Feet Under and also wrote the script for 2008’s Yuvvraaj. He then made his directorial debut in 2010 with Dabangg, starring Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha. The film was a superhit and became one of the highest-grossing films of its time. However, despite the success of Dabangg, Abhinav didn’t make a sequel. He stated that he didn’t want to compromise on his creative ideas. He later made Besharam in 2013 with Ranbir Kapoor. While it wasn’t as successful at the box office, it did showcase his distinctive style and satirical approach to directing.
