We all thought the first season of Your Friends & Neighbors broke boundaries when it came to secrets, but season 2 just proved that they can only worsen over time. After we saw Coop (Jon Hamm), Nick (Mark Tallman) and Barney (Hoon Lee) standing over Ashe’s (James Marsden) corpse in episode 9, the finale unravels the aftermath of their crime. More importantly, the episode teases which one of them could crack first.

Here, Hollywood Life breaks down the bombshells and major highlights from the season 2 finale. (Warning: spoilers are ahead from the season 2 finale of Your Friends & Neighbors)

Is Ashe Really Dead in Your Friends & Neighbors?

Yes. Although he wakes up at one point during the finale, Coop, Nick and Barney leave Ashe for dead.

As the three friends put Ashe in the trunk of a car, they drive to dispose of the body. Barney, sitting in the backseat, glances over at Ashe’s face only to see his eyes snap open and attack the whole car. A fight ensues, and Nick loses control of the car, plowing it through the grass and into a lake.

The car and the four men all go down, but Nick, Coop and Barney swim to the surface. Before leaving the scene, they all change Ashe’s position to the driver’s seat so that it appears he drove it into the water himself.

Nick, Coop and Barney all walk back to town together, shocked by their actions, but they vow to keep it all secret.

Do Nick, Coop & Barney Get Arrested for Killing Ashe?

No, not at least in the season 2 finale. The episode ends with the three of them getting away with the crime for now. Coop, Nick and Barney return to their wealthy suburban lifestyles, reuniting with other men in town in the sauna and at a father’s day celebration. But Nick is clearly breaking down from guilt.

At the end of the finale, the camera cuts back to the pond where Ashe and Nick’s car are both submerged under water, teasing that season 3 will likely address Ashe’s death.

Do Mel & Coop Get Back Together?

No. Although Mel (Amanda Peet) and Coop have undeniable chemistry throughout season 2, they do not actually reunite in season 2. In fact, Mel hooks up with Miguel.

Amanda exclusively spoke with Hollywood Life about her character’s connection with Coop and weighed in on their dynamic as divorcees.

“I think that there’s always this connection, this chemistry thing between them, and I think that even when they’re fighting, they’re fighting about parenting,” Amanda said after announcing her breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year. “So, this season I feel like [Mel and Coop] kind of on parallel tracks. Both of them are spiraling into extreme naughtiness, but I wonder if that’s also why they’re really connected.”

Where Is Ali in Your Friends & Neighbors?

Coop has finally tracked down Ali (Lena Hall) after she packed up and ran to discover life outside of the one she’s been living. Ali is now living in a small apartment by herself, and Coop visits to check on her.

During an exclusive interview with Hollywood Life, Lena described her character’s struggle while living with bipolar disorder, and is therefore “just struggling every day to prove to herself that she can survive without having a breakdown.”

“Ali doesn’t [have huge ambitions],” Lena pointed out. “Her musical ambitions are basically to survive and just to do it because she loves it. That is her ambition.”
