The woman Lindsey Buckingham filed a restraining order against in 2025 and who claims to be his daughter has admitted to a local news station that she visited him last week, as reports emerged that the ex–Fleetwood Mac guitarist was approached by an assailant and had an unknown substance thrown on him in Santa Monica last week.

Michelle Dick, 54, has not been arrested in the March 25 attack, which was widely reported more than a week after it occurred. Police in Santa Monica told The Hollywood Reporter that the case is being investigated jointly by two departments. The famed “Holiday Road” singer was arriving at an appointment when a woman threw an “unknown substance” at him, according to multiple reports. Authorities in Los Angeles described the woman as a “stalking suspect” known to Buckingham from past incidents involving him and his family.

“The Los Angeles Police Department’s Threat Management Unit is working with the Santa Monica Police Department to investigate this incident,” the LAPD said in a statement sent to THR on Thursday. “To protect the integrity of the open and ongoing investigation, no further comment will be provided at this time.”

In court documents filed in Los Angeles last year, Buckingham sought a restraining order against Dick, who claims the 76-year-old married father of three is her biological father. According to court records, Dick was spotted outside the Buckingham family’s Brentwood home multiple times over the years and allegedly harassed the family; a call to 911 to report an injury inside the home, leading to Buckingham being handcuffed by responding officers, was the inciting incident that led the legendary guitarist to take the situation to the courts.

Dick allegedly targeted Buckingham’s wife, Kristen Messner, with menacing phone calls that included threats to her life. His children were also contacted by Dick via phone and social media. At one point, the family chose not to press charges after she halted her harassment campaign, according to KTLA, whose reporter Sandra Mitchell spoke with Dick following news of the recent attack.

A detective in the threat management unit supported Buckingham’s petition for a restraining order in Los Angeles Superior Court last November, telling the judge that Dick believed she was his child and was dangerous and mentally unstable.

“One time — that was last year,” she told Mitchell when asked about sightings at Buckingham’s home. “But I didn’t know I had a restraining order on me. He wasn’t a father to me, but he’s my birth father.”

Dick told KTLA she is currently living in her car. The LAPD said it is the lead agency in the investigation, as the suspect is linked to other incidents in Los Angeles.

Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974 alongside his then-girlfriend Stevie Nicks. During his tenure, the band saw its greatest success, including a Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit (“Dreams” in 1977) and four No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200: Fleetwood Mac (1975), Rumours (1977), Mirage (1982), and The Dance (1997). Buckingham exited Fleetwood Mac in 1987 and released his solo debut, Law and Order, in 1981; he has since recorded seven solo albums. He returned to the band in 1997 and remained until his dismissal in 2018, which led to a lawsuit against Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, and John McVie.
