The nine-day-long auspicious festival of Navratri is being celebrated across the nation. In 2025, the festival began on September 22 and will end on October 2, with Dusshera, or Vijayadashmi, being celebrated. The fourth day of this festival is dedicated to Maa Kushamanda. She is credited with creating the entire world with her enchanting and divine laughter. On this day, the devotees worship and seek the divine blessings of this incarnation or form of Maa Durga. Who is Maa Kushmanda, and why is she worshipped?
Goddess Kushmanda gets her name from the amalgamation of three words: ‘Ku,’ which is a suffix for small; ‘Ushma,’ which means energetic; and ‘anda,’ which means an egg, which represents life.
The goddess, who rides on a lioness, has eight hands. In her right hands, she bears a lotus, kamandal, bow, and arrow. In the left hands, she holds amrit kalash, japa mala, gada, and chakra.
Also known as Ashtabhuja Devi, Maa Kushmanda rules the Anahata, or Heart Chakra. Devotees experiencing anxiety, depression, fear, or past regrets should pray to Maa Kushmanda on this auspicious day.
Navratri day 4 auspicious timings
As per Drik Panchang, the Brahma muhurt for performing Ashwina Ghatasthapanat will begin at 04:33 AM and go on until 05:21 AM. Abhijit muhurat will go on from 11:47 AM to 12:35 PM, and Vijaya muhurt from 02:12 PM to 03:00 PM.

The auspicious color for the fourth day of Navratri is yellow. Yellow is vibrant and bright and is said to bring positivity, joy, and happiness in your life.
Navratri Day 4: Rituals and Puja
On the fourth day of Navratri, you should rise during Brahma Murat, take a bath, and dress in yellow. Then, puja samagri, including vermillion, sacred thread, sandalwood paste, and rice. Light a ghee-filled diya and offer vermillion to Maa Kushmanda.
Offer 5 varieties of seasonal fruits to the Goddess, with meetha paan, supari, laung, and elaichi, and make sure to offer Malpua as bhog. This helps to seek blessings for financial stability and prosperity.
Recite the Durga Chalisa, the Durga Saptashti Path, and other mantras. After concluding the aarti, offer the bhog you prepared as prasad. In the evening, open your fast with a Satvik meal after performing aarti again.
