Vijay’s rally in Tamil Nadu’s Karur turned deadly. The death toll has risen to 31. About 16 women, nine men and six children have been killed.

Vijay’s Tamil Nadu rally turns deadly: A huge campaign rally by Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) turned deadly on Saturday, September 27. In the evening, the sudden increase in the number of people who attended it led to massive chaos. This left 31 dead and about 40 injured in Karur district in the western part of the state. According to the district administration, the incident was referred to as a “stampede-like crush”. It had taken place at Velusamypuram on the Karur–Erode highway. This is where many had collected in huge numbers for Vijay’s ‘Velicham Veliyeru’ campaign meeting. The star was addressing the huge gathering when it turned chaotic and he had to reportedly stop it.
