Michael Smith, an actor who stars as Bubbles on the cult TV series Trailer Park Boys on Netflix, has been charged with sexual assault.

According to court documents filed in Nova Scotia provincial court and obtained by the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., the country’s public broadcaster, Smith was charged on Oct. 2 in Halifax over an alleged assault that took place on Dec. 30, 2017, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. With the charge as yet unproven in a courtroom, Smith is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 10 in Halifax as part of a legal process led by the Nova Scotia Public Prosecutions Service.

Smith’s agent declined to comment when The Hollywood Reporter reached out for a statement.

Trailer Park Boys is a faux documentary about three petty criminals running scams from their Halifax trailer park and streams on Netflix. Trailer Park Boys Inc., the series producer, in a statement said Smith had stepped away from the series.

“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously. We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case,” the statement said.

The Halifax Regional Police Service and the Nova Scotia Public Prosecutions Service were not available for comment.

The Trailer Park Boys was created in 2001 by Barry Dunn, Robb Wells, John Paul Tremblay and Mike Clattenburg and originally launched on Canada’s Showcase channel. The series ended its Canadian TV run in 2008; Netflix picked up the Trailer Park Boys property in 2014. Besides Smith as Bubbles, the mockumentary centers fellow lead characters Ricky, played by Wells, and Julian (Tremblay).

The 13th season of the Canadian series has wrapped production and is set for an April 2026 premiere. In April 2016, Smith was arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery, but the investigation with potential charges was dropped soon afterwards.
