THIS Hindi remake of South film was super flop, made only Rs 26 crore despite A-list star but is trending on OTT

South movies are proving to be a rage at the box office! While many Bollywood films are failing to earn money at the box office, South Indian movies are doing wonders. Pushpa 2: The Rule is the latest example. The trend of remaking South movies into Bollywood films has also become popular. However, there is no guarantee when it comes to remakes. There have been several instances when the South films have been a hit but remakes have failed. One such movie is Akshay Kumar‘s Sarfira. The film was the remake of Tamil film Soorarai Pottru starring Suriya in the lead. It was directed by Sudha Kongara. The story revolved around a man who wished to start a low-cost airline so that even a common man is capable of flying. Sarfira did receive critical acclaim and even has an IMDb rating of 7 on 10. However, it was a box office failure. The budget of the movie was around Rs 80 crore. However, it did not recover even half of its budget. In India, the movie made around Rs 26.3 crore and its worldwide collection was around Rs 30.02 crore. The film also starred Radhika Madan, Paresh Rawal and more. The box office failure of Sarfira did raise questions on Akshay Kumar’s power to pull audience to the theatres and was discussed in entertainment news. Akshay Kumar’s movie started streaming on Disney+Hotstar from October 11, 2024. As the movie made it to OTT, Sarfira started trending on number one spot. Netizens had good things to say about the movie and Akshay Kumar’s performance was lauded too. Akshay Kumar is now gearing from the release of Sky Force. At the trailer launch event, Akshay did speak about the failure of Sarfira. He was quoted saying, “My entire career has been made at this pace with dedication and hard work. I have also been told not to take up content-based films, but I don’t want to do that. Even though the film didn’t work, I was very proud that I made a film like Sarfira. It is one of my best films.”
