South Korea’s entertainment industry has been embroiled in controversy again. The case involved several prominent stars accused of operating agencies without registration. According to the Police, cases have been filed against these artists. They include renowned actor Kang Dong-won, pop singer CL, trot singer Song Ga-in, and veteran artist Kim Wan-sun. This revelation has caused a stir in the industry, raising questions about how such a significant violation occurred.
What is the controversy?
According to local media reports, Seoul police are investigating the activities of these artists. According to the accusations, these stars operated entertainment companies without complying with the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act. The complaint was filed by a citizen. According to the law, registration of all agencies is mandatory.
Who is Kang Dong-won?
Kang Dong-won, who recently appeared in the Disney+ hit series Tempest is also embroiled in controversy. Kang has also starred in several popular films such as Temptation of Wolves, Secret Reunion, The Priests, and Master. Reports indicate that his agency has now initiated the registration process after missing the deadline. This case could prove to be a major setback for CL, the former leader of 2NE1, who is now pursuing her solo career and international projects. Trot singer Song Ga-in and Kim Wan-sun, known as Korea’s Madonna, are also accused of violating regulations.
Under the law, running an agency without registration is a serious offense. Conviction carries a penalty of up to two years in prison or a fine of approximately 20 million Korean won. This is not the first time such controversy has surfaced in the industry. Several other artists have faced similar accusations recently.
