StudioCanal has secured international sales rights to Guillermo del Toro‘s Oscar-winning Pan’s Labyrinth.

It comes as Pan’s Labyrinth returns to the Cannes Film Festival nearly twenty years after its historic reception in 2006. The masterpiece became del Toro’s first Academy Award-nominated film, with six nominations, including best original screenplay and best foreign language film.

It went on to nab three Oscars (for best cinematography, best production design and best makeup design), and won over 100 international awards, including three BAFTAs and seven Goyas.

The restored version, presented by Cineverse, will premiere as part of the Cannes Classics selection, in the Debussy Theatre, in the presence of del Toro today on Tuesday.

“After our successful collaboration on The Devil’s Backbone, I am honored and delighted to continue working with my friends at StudioCanal on the international sales and distribution of the 20th anniversary of Pan’s Labyrinth,” said the Mexican filmmaker. “The care and attention StudioCanal devotes to the support of legacy cinema,” he added, “as experienced in theatres and physical media, is a gift to anyone who appreciates the art of film.”

The deal was negotiated by Falko Jahn, vice president of editorialisation & development library, with del Toro’s company Necropia further expanding its catalogue. Mexican exhibitor Cinépolis will lead theatrical distribution in Mexico and across Latin America for the re-release of the film.

StudioCanal will release its new 4K restoration later this year and is planning a series of theatrical re-releases in key territories, such as the Germany, U.K., France, Benelux, and Australia this fall.
