Ramanand Sagar’s son Prem Sagar passes away; Arun Govil pays last respect

Film and television producer and cinematographer Prem Sagar has passed away. According to reports in NDTV, he was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai. His health was not well for a long time. “He had been unwell for some time and was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. On Sunday, doctors advised that he be taken home. He passed away this morning. The cremation will be held today at 3 pm at Pawan Hans cremation ground in Mumbai,” a source told the publication

Ramayana lead actor Arun Govil expressed deep grief over the death of Prem Sagar on social media. He wrote that Prem Sagar ji was the son of famous producer and late Ramanand Sagar ji. Ramanand Sagar ji had brought the dignity, ideals and teachings of Lord Shri Ram to every home through the Ramayana serial. Prem Sagar has also been a well-known producer and his contribution will always be remembered. He wrote, “We pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant the departed soul a place at His divine feet and to give strength to the bereaved family to bear this profound grief. Om Shanti.”

Prem Sagar received training from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. He was a part of the 1968 batch. After this, he worked for a long time under his father’s production house Sagar Arts. His career included many important projects.

The Ramayan serial broadcast on Doordarshan in 1987 created history in the Indian television world. Prem Sagar contributed to many other religious and cultural projects including this show. His art and technical understanding made these projects successful. The industry and his fans will always remember him with respect and reverence.
