Prime Video and Mike Flanagan are giving more of a glimpse at their reimagining of Stephen King’s classic debut novel Carrie.
Ahead of the Carrie panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Prime Video debuted the official teaser trailer for the eight-episode series, which expands on King’s original story about a high school girl with telekinetic powers.
The official teaser hints at “new dimensions still to come,” Prime Video described of the trailer.
At the end of the panel, Flanagan announced that all eight episodes of the series will premiere on Prime Video on Oct. 7. Key art featuring a nod to the infamous bloody prom was also shared.
King’s Carrie was published in 1974, spent 14 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into more than 35 languages. Brian De Palma’s 1976 film adaptation of Carrie, which starred Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, earned Academy Award nominations for Spacek and Laurie.
The upcoming reimagining from Flanagan marks the first time the story has been adapted for television.
Summer Howell stars as the series’ title character Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White.
The show synopsis reads: “Misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.”
Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Tota, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard also star.
In addition to being the showrunner, Flanagan also writes and exec produces the series. He also directs four episodes. King serves as executive producer on the series from Amazon MGM Studios production.
