Peacock is diving into the world of counterfeit luxury goods with its latest series pickup.

The NBCUniversal-owned streamer has ordered a crime drama called Superfakes from writer and showrunner Alice Ju (Poker Face, Beef). Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems) are also among the executive producers; A24 and Universal Studio Group’s UCP are producing.

Superfakes will follow a “small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer,” per the show’s description, who becomes involved in a dangerous black market in order to fund a life of suburban respectability for her family.

The series is the second scripted show for the Safdies: Benny Safdie co-created Showtime’s The Curse with Nathan Fielder, and both he and Josh Safdie were executive producers. The brothers also exec produced HBO’s docuseries Telemarketers and the upcoming Pee-wee as Himself.

In addition to Beef — where she shared in the Netflix show’s 2023 Emmy win for best limited or anthology series — and Poker Face, Ju’s writing and producing credits include Russian Doll and The Other Two. A24 produced Beef, The Curse and Uncut Gems.

Ju, Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie are executive producing Superfakes with Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke of 3 Arts, Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush.

The series joins a roster of upcoming dramas on Peacock that also includes the Jennifer Garner-led The Five-Star Weekend, All Her Fault starring Sarah Snook and The Good Daughter, based on Karin Slaughter’s novel.
