Luv Kush Ramlila Committee held a press conference in Delhi today. It was done to announce that they were not roping in actor Poonam Pandey in the RamLila.
Poonam Pandey has been dropped from essaying the role of popular character Mandodari in the Ramlila which is being organised by Luv Kush Ramlila Committee at Red Fort grounds in Old Delhi. Following the press conference that was held in Delhi today, the organising members of declared their committee decision. According to reports, the decision was made after intense thought and multiple discussions. For the unversed, they had been getting multiple objections from multiple sections of the society ever since the news was put out. Following their deliberations, the committee had made the decision that that the role of Mandodari will be performed by another artiste.
What led to Poonam Pandey’s controversy?
In a statement, Arjun Kumar, president and Subhash Goyal, general secretary of the Ramlila’s organising committee explained how the controversy kicked off. He said, “Poonam Pandey had initially agreed to portray Mandodari at the committee’s invitation. However, after her name was announced, several institutions and groups raised objections, which, according to the committee, could hinder the core purpose of the Ramlila – to spread the message of Lord Shri Ram to society,” he reportedly said.

The committee was quick to extend their best wishes to Poonam Pandey for her future endeavours. They believe that the actress would understand their decision and accept it willingly. Meanwhile, Poonam had expressed her joy and excitement over being confirmed that she would play the part.
BJP, VHP wanted to replace Poonam
After the news was circulated on social media, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) media cell head Praveen Shankar Kapoor, who also serves as the senior vice president of the Lav Kush Ramlila Committee, had written to the organisers to ensure Poonam was replaced. According to PTI, Vishva Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) Prant Surendra Gupta too raised objections to Poonam playing Mandodari in Ramlila.
