Amazon MGM Studios showed Las Vegas How to Rob a Bank on Wednesday, highlighting the action comedy heist during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation.
The high-octane footage introduced a pack of criminals who post all of their jobs on YouTube, having robbed 15 banks and built a following of 31 million on their channel. They are far from subtle about it, declaring, “make your outfits memorable, just have fun with it” as they don elaborate animal masks.
Nicholas Hoult serves as the group’s leader (in a wolf mask), with the rest of the group comprised of Anna Sawai, Pete Davidson and Rhenzy Feliz. Davidson’s character explains that the other core component of the crew is to pay the money they steal forward to a good cause, as he jokes, “and it has to be a real one, OnlyFans is not a charity.”
“Who is robbing who?” serves as the film’s slogan, as director David Leitch appeared on stage with Davidson to note the criminals are “regular people like you and me” who are fighting back against the system, trying to put an end to greed and corruption. “Modern-day robin hoods, taking from the rich and giving to poor,” he added.
Zoë Kravitz, John C. Reilly and Christian Slater also star in the project. Leitch, the stuntman turned filmmaker who has been behind Bullet Train, The Fall Guy and Atomic Blonde, is directing as well as producing alongside wife and producing partner Kelly McCormick via their 87North banner. Mark Bianculli, who was a writer and consulting producer on Amazon’s Nazi hunting show Hunters, has penned the script. How to Rob a Bank is set for a theatrical release on Sept. 4.
CinemaCon, the annual gathering of cinema owners and Hollywood studios, is hosted in Las Vegas by Cinema United, formerly known as the National Association of Theatre Owners. This year’s edition runs April 13-16.
