Netflix has dropped the trailer for The Greatest Rivalry: India vs Pakistan. The documentary is set to be one of the most anticipated and biggest releases of 2025 that will have everyone in India glued to their TV screens. The trailer transports the viewers to the fierce cricket rivalries that were widely discussed during the 90s. It explores the legendary clashes between Shoaib Akhtar and Virender Sehwag, and Inzamam-ul-Haq and Sourav Ganguly.
The documentary features former cricketers Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis, Javed Miandad, and Inzamam-ul-Haq. Director Chandradev Bhagat had mentioned in a media statement that “Sharing the story of cricket’s greatest rivalry is an honour, especially from the experiences of living cricket legends. Partnering with Netflix has been exciting. It provides the opportunity to bring this account to global audiences, allowing them to relive iconic cricketing moments. The docu-series goes beyond the boundary ropes. It explores how the history, culture, and politics between the neighboring nations has shaped their rivalry on the field.”
On YouTube, the trailer of The Greatest Rivalry India vs Pakistan trailer has garnered an overwhelmingly positive reactions from the audiences. One person called Sourav Ganguly an “emotion”. “Sourav Ganguly Dada was an emotion for every 90’s kid. Those were the days when Dada used to hit sixes out of the stadium. He is the pioneer and the architect of modern aggressive Indian cricket,” he said. Next comment read, “Dada’s line:- Friendship Tour toh naam dete thay, magar shoib akhtar 150 ki speed se ball dal rahy thay toh usme friendship kaha.”
Some viewers even pointed out how Shoaib Akhtar’s laugh gives off major “villain” vibes. Another comment read, “That Shoaib Akhtar’s laugh looks like he will be the main villian of this series.” Another person commented, ” when a Villain is introduced into the movie trailer with a Wild Laugh. Akhtar, The Cricket’s Biggest Villain.” Another person wrote, “Akhtar’s laugh stole the entire trailer.”
