Singer Guru Randhawa seems to have found himself in a legal soup. The lyrics of his latest songs have allegedly called for legal trouble for the Punjabi singer. Reportedly, a case has been filed against Guru Randhawan in Ludhiana for alleged ‘drug related’ lyrics in his latest song. He also got summoned by Ludhiana Court and has been asked to appear for the proceedings. Here’s everything you need to know about the case.
Why is Guru Randhawa in legal trouble?
A complaint has been filed against Guru Randhawa for the song titled Sirra. The complainer has claimed that the song contains ‘derogatory and drug-related lyrics’. Companies like Apple Music, YouTube, Instagram and more are also mentioned. A complainant named Rajdeep Singh Mann has reportedly claimed that the track promotes drug culture. He has objected to lyrics Oh jatta de aa kaake balliye… jammeya nu gurti ch mili afeem hai…” that mean “We are the sons of Jats. We got opium as our first food when we were born.” As per a report in The Indian Express, the advocate of the complainant was quoted saying, “We demand an FIR against Randhawa. The lyrics insult a pious Sikh tradition. The practice of giving gurti is deeply emotional and associated with respect and purity. The song implies that newborns in Jat families are given opium, which is unacceptable.” Guru Randhawa has now been asked to appear in court in person or through counsel. A hearing has been scheduled for September 2.
Backlash over song Azul
Guru Randhawa’s latest song Azul has also landed him in a controversy. The singer is receiving immense backlash for the visuals of the music video. He is being slammed for portraying schools girls in a sexualized manner. The video has Guru Randhawa as a photographer visiting an all-girls school. Allegedly, Sonam Kapoor also voiced her concern over the problematic video. Guru Randhawa has maintained silence over the controversy.
