Minnie Driver is recovering after being in a “really bad car accident” in France a “few days ago.”
Wearing a neck brace, the Oscar-nominated actress revealed the news in an Instagram video recorded in London. Driver said the crash left her with a sprained neck, but she is otherwise “fine” and “grateful to be alive.”
Driver recalled how she and her friend Ben were driving on a country road when their car was hit by another vehicle that failed to stop at an intersection.
“We somehow walked out if … Well we didn’t walk out of it, we crawled out of it, but we did get out of it alive,” she said, adding that the crash was “not our fault.”
Driver went on to credit the car they were in, which she said was key to their survival.
“The reason why I’m not dead, honestly, is the car that we were driving,” Driver said. “I’ve never been in a crash before, but the 360-degree airbags are what saved our lives.”
“I want to celebrate that car. I’m Minnie Driver, pun intended, I need to celebrate the car that saved us,” she added. “Because we’ve got families and people who love us and I am so grateful to be alive, so, Kia, you are a baller car company. You’re amazing.”
In a caption alongside the video, Driver wrote, “My brain keeps replaying the crash which is very hard but seems to be a necessary part of processing. Weeping too, feels good and helpful. Thank you to my friends, my family, all the people at work and especially my friend Ben and his family. I love you.”
She also thanked a van driver who stopped and helped her and her friend “before the ambulances arrived.”
At the end of the video, Driver shared a photo of the smashed car and her leaving the hospital.
Driver has been in Paris for much of the summer, since early June.
