After taking a good opening at the ticket windows in India, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s high-octane action drama Khalifa has hit a major speed bump on its second day, mostly due to Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, which performed well on the opening day, and has shared the screens. The film, which registered one of the strongest opening days of the year for Mollywood, witnessed a steep decline on Friday, and in two days, it has not even crossed the double-digit mark at the box office in India!
Prithviraj Sukumaran Still Eyeing I, Nobody!
The silver lining in this sharp trajectory shift is that Prithviraj Sukumaran’s latest release is already on the verge of crushing the lifetime domestic collections of his last release. I, Nobody, earned a net collection of 8.71 crore in its lifetime.
Khalifa Box Office Day 2 Estimates
On the second day, Friday, August 21, Khalifa earned in the range of 2.3 – 2.5 crore at the box office, as per the early trends! This is a drop of almost 50% from the opening day’s 5.35 crore. The film witnessed low footfalls on day 2 and, as a result, it registered an occupancy of only 32% across approximately 1400 shows in India!
A 56% drop on Day 2 for an action entertainer is a clear red flag that mixed word-of-mouth may be taking a toll on the film’s weekend collections! For Prithviraj Sukumaran to secure a healthy first-weekend total and achieve box office stability, the film urgently requires a good surge on Saturday and Sunday.
No Chance To Outshine Top 5!
Interestingly, Khalifa seems to have no chance to challenge the top 5 highest-grossing films of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s career at the box office, where the top 5 is secured by Salaar’s 406.5 crore, and the fifth spot is claimed by Lucifer’s 65.21 crore!
