Jonathan Bailey has weighed in on his Bridgerton future.
The season two lead confirmed during an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers Thursday that he is returning for season four of the hit Netflix series.
Bailey, who plays Viscount Anthony Bridgerton in the Shonda Rhimes-produced period piece, said he will be “reuniting with the family next week.” The late night host joked with the actor that it must never get boring.
“It changes every year, you know, every two years,” he said, referencing the show’s rotating leading cast format. Bailey starred alongside Simone Ashley as the leading couple of the show’s second season, reprising their roles during season three, led by Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton. He added, “What an amazing thing to be a part of.”
Bailey also showed some love for his onscreen brother, Luke Thompson, and the recently announced season four leading cast addition, Yerin Ha. Bridgerton’s fourth season will follow the pair’s love story, following in the format of seasons past. “There’s going to be lots of space for new people to come in and Luke and Yerin are gonna be great, so I’ll always pop back and say hello,” the actor said.
According to the logline, Bridgerton season four “turns its focus to bohemian second son Benedict. Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down.” However, when he meets a mysterious Lady in Silver at Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) masquerade ball, that all changes — and Anthony (Bailey) and Colin couldn’t be prouder. Julia Quinn’s An Offer from a Gentleman — the third book in her novel series — will serve as the basis for Benedict’s season.
The 36-year-old actor is currently on the widely publicized press tour for John M. Chu’s long-awaited film adaptation of Wicked. Bailey stars as the charming and charismatic Fiyero, originally portrayed by Broadway actor Norbert Leo Butz in the stage musical. Wicked — which has been a Broadway hit for the last two decades — serves as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, following the unlikely friendship between Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) while at Shiz University in the Land of Oz.
While there’s no news yet about when fans can expect Bridgerton season four, Brownell told The Hollywood Reporter at the London premiere of season three, part two, that they will likely have to wait another two years before season four hits the streamer.
