    Is Verizon Wireless Still Down? Why the Network Is Having an Outage

    Verizon customers had a rude wake-up call on anuary 14, 2026. According to DownDetector, nearly 200,000 Verizon users reported an outage in their area. Social media users vented their frustrations about seeing the dreaded “SOS” signal across multiple states, primarily on the East Coast. The company issued a public statement confirming the problem. So, what caused the huge Verizon outage?

    What Caused the Verizon Network Outage?

    It’s still unclear what caused the sudden Verizon outage. According to the company’s X account, a spokesperson for the company issued a statement, noting that they were “aware” of the service interruption.

    “We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers,” the statement read. “Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly. We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for the inconvenience.”

    What Does SOS Mean?

    When a Verizon customer sees the “SOS” signal on their phone, it usually means there is an issue connecting to a wireless network. However, each device should still be able to make 911 calls if the user connects to another carrier.

    Is Verizon Working Again?

    At the time of publication, tens of thousands of Verizon customers are still reporting outages. People from almost every state in the United States are experiencing a widespread Verizon wireless network outage, but most of the online complaints came from East Coasters.

    DownDetector has an updated outage map for all Verizon customers who have reported network issues, and the following are the cities with the most reports: New York City, Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Miami and Ashburn.
