Reneé Rapp‘s mother seemingly knew her daughter was destined for pop stardom even before she was born.

The singer-actress recently shared on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast how her mom, Denise Rapp, manifested her music career when choosing her name.

“My mom chose my first and last name to be, well, okay, arguably chose my first and last name to both have [two letter R’s],” the “Too Well” artist said. “She was like, ‘Alliteration, just in case she wants to be a pop star’ before I was born.”

Though Rapp quipped that the move was “conceited,” she confessed that she’s actually “obsessed with the way [her mother] did it,” adding, “I’m like, thank you, God.”

Poehler, seemingly impressed by the coincidence, responded, “She gave you a pop star name just in case, because Reneé Rapp is a huge pop star name.” Rapp added, “It’s a really good one!”

The “Leave Me Alone” singer got her entertainment start in the Broadway musical Mean Girls, playing Regina George. She later reprised her role in the 2024 movie musical adaptation. In addition to her music career, she also starred on the HBO show The Sex Lives of College Girls before exiting during season three.

However, music is where Rapp’s passion truly lies. She released her debut studio album, Snow Angel, in 2023, and is set to release her sophomore album, Bite Me, in August.

She also dropped her new single, “Leave Me Alone,” last week and seemingly dissed her old job, The Sex Lives of College Girls, in one of the lyrics. “I took my sex life with me, now the show ain’t fucking / Leave me alone, bitch, I wanna have fun,” Rapp sings in the second verse, alluding to the show’s cancellation after season three.
