Legendary icons of Indian cinema Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan teamed up for Thug Life, which was released on June 5th after a lot of controversy. The film has garnered mixed reactions from viewers after a controversy involving the lead actor Kamal Haasan. Netizens have since lauded Dulquer Salmaan and Jayam Ravi for leaving the project early on.
When the film was announced in 2023, popular South Indian actors Dulquer Salmaan and Jayam Ravi were also supposed to be part of this magnum opus film. But in March 2024, the South Indian actors decided to opt out of the film, which initially invited a lot of backlash from fans. Later, the actors explained that they made this decision of not appearing in the movie due to their already conflicting commitments and hectic shooting schedules, which created a complication in their involvement in this project of Kamal Haasan. Soon, the actors were replaced by Silambarasan TR and Ashok Selvan.
It is reported that after exiting the film, Dulquer Salmaan went on to work in Lucky Baskhar, whereas Jayam Ravi went on to work on his ambitious project Genie.
Netizens have since taken to popular social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to laud Jayam Ravi and Dulquer Salmaan after the movie got poor reviews from fans.
