Dhanush is one of the most popular actors and filmmakers from the Tamil film industry. He is considered to be among the biggest superstars of Tamil cinema. However, his box office performance with respect to his last five films has not been quite impressive. Out of his last five films, only one emerged as a clear success. As Dhanush gears up for his second release of the year, Om: Chapter 1 – Udhiram, we take a look at how much his last five films made at the box office.

Dhanush’s Last 5 Films At The Box Office

The actor had a bad start at the box office with his Tamil film Kara. The film faced a deficit of 62.44% against its massive budget of 100 crore. The film also starred Mamitha Baiju in the lead. However, it failed to make a mark at the box office.

In the last five films released over the past two years, Dhanush had only one clear hit with the Hindi film Tere Ishk Mein. The film earned a profit of 40.1%, making it his most profitable film in the last five years. Three of his films could not even enter the safe zone. The only Tamil film that recovered its budget was the 2024 release Raayan.

    What’s Next For Dhanush?

The actor is now looking forward to Om: Chapter 1 – Udhiram: The Blood Wood. The film has been directed by Rajkumar Periasamy. It also stars Mammootty in a pivotal role, marking his return to Tamil cinema, while Sreeleela plays the female lead. The title hints at a multi-chapter franchise in the making. The film will release in theatres worldwide on October 16, 2026.

Sai Abhyankkar has composed the music after recently scoring RJ Balaji’s Karuppu, while Ezhil Arasu handles the cinematography, Kalaivanan R handles the editing, and Kavya Sriram handles the costumes. Wunderbar Films is producing the film in association with R Take Studios.

However, the film will face major box office competition from Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth. It will mark the first box office clash between Rajinikanth and his former son-in-law Dhanush. Jailer 2 already enjoys massive anticipation because of the success of its predecessor. Dhanush, on the other hand, will have to impress the audience and draw them to theatres with positive word of mouth.
