HYBE BTS’s agency chairman, Bang Si Hyuk, visited the police on September 15 for questioning related to the Capital Markets Act incident. Upon his arrival at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Financial Crimes Investigation Unit in connection with a fraud-related case, Bang expressed an ‘apology’ to the waiting reporters.

The HYBE chairman spoke to the media as he arrived at the police station, stating, “I sincerely apologise for causing concern regarding this issue. I will fully cooperate with today’s investigation,” which quickly made news. According to the Capital Markets Act, an individual who earns 5 billion won or more through dishonest practices related to financial investment products can face a life sentence or a minimum “Prison sentence of five years.

Bang Si-hyuk is being investigated for allegedly misleading investors in 2019 by claiming he had no plans for an IPO for HYBE while pressuring them to sell their shares to a special purpose company (SPC) created by HYBE executives.
On August 6, Bang Si-Hyuk sent a message to all employees at HYBE, the agency behind BTS. The lengthy letter emphasised his desire to return to Korea to participate in the ongoing inquiry.
On July 23, police initiated a search and seizure operation at HYBE’s headquarters. They plan to conduct further searches until August 16.
