Joe Biden is among those across politics and Hollywood reacting to the deadly shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

The former president’s campaign said Trump was “fine” after being rushed off the stage when gunfire erupted. The shooting is being investigated as an attempted assassination on Trump, law enforcement officials told the Associated Press. A local prosecutor said the suspected gunman and at least one attendee are dead.

Hours following the shooting, Trump wrote on his Truth Social media site that a bullet “pierced the upper part of my right ear.” He added, “I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.”

Biden condemned the deadly shooting at Trump’s campaign rally, writing in a statement, “I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”

The president later said in a televised news briefing Saturday evening that he had tried to get in touch with Trump, adding, “I hope I get to speak to him tonight.”

“Look, there’s no place in America for this kind of violence,” he continued. “It’s sick. It’s sick. It’s one of the reasons why we have to unite this country. We cannot allow for this to be happening. We cannot be like this. We cannot condone this.”
