Barry Keoghan has deactivated his Instagram account due to the “disgusting commentary” and “absolute lies” he has received about his character and family.
The Oscar-nominated actor took to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday to respond to rumors surrounding his relationship with his infant son, whom he shares with ex-partner Alyson Sandro, and his recent breakup with Grammy-nominated singer Sabrina Carpenter.
“I can only sit and take so much,” Keoghan wrote in a lengthy post. “My name has been dragged across the internet in ways I usually don’t respond to. I have to respond now because it’s getting to a place where there are too many lines being crossed. I deactivated my account because I can no longer let this stuff distract from my family and my work. The messages I have received no person should ever have to read them. Absolute lies, hatred, disgusting commentary about my appearance, character, how I am as a parent and every other inhumane thing you can imagine. Dragging my character and everything I worked extremely hard for and stand for.”
The Saltburn star said that some people have been “crossing a line,” taking their harassment beyond just comments on social media and “knocking on my granny’s door” as well as “sitting outside my baby boy’s house intimidating them.”
Keoghan continued, “Each and every day I work harder to push myself on every level to be the healthiest and strongest person for that boy. I want to provide opportunities for him to learn, fail and grow. I want him to be able to look up to his daddy, to have full trust in me and know I will have his back no matter what. I need you to remember he has to read ALL of this about his father when he is older. Please be respectful to all Thank u x.”
Keoghan and Sandro, who welcomed their son in August 2022, broke up the following summer. The Banshees of Inisherin actor later started dating Carpenter, drawing criticism at the time for the seemingly quick jump to a new relationship. The pair dated for about a year before reports started to circulate this week that Keoghan and Carpenter called it quits. However, their split has been hit with speculation that the actor cheated on the singer, though neither has confirmed the reason for their breakup.
