Prime Video has ordered its first multi-camera comedy series from someone who knows the format extremely well.

The Amazon-owned streamer has picked up DINKS from Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman and Hannah K.S. Canter. Amazon MGM Studios, Lionsgate Television, Kauffman and Canter’s Okay Goodnight and Publicis Media Content Innovation, the ad giant’s entertainment arm, are producing the series, which will be heavily improvised.

June Diane Raphael (Elle) and Paul Scheer (Black Monday), improv veterans and a real-life married couple, will star in DINKS (an acronym for Double Income, No Kids). Jon Gabrus is also a series regular.

“I’ve always said I wouldn’t do another multi-cam unless someone was able to reinvent it. Okay Goodnight and I got tired of waiting, and decided we should do it ourselves,” said Kauffman in a statement. “It’s what I hoped it would be: unique, hilarious and warm. Shooting this show is like being on a roller coaster in the dark. You have no idea where it’s going to go, but you know it’s going to be fun.”

DINKS will follow Josh (Scheer) and Charlie (Raphael), a couple “who, in the absence of a marriage or kids, decide to literally build a life together by renovating their nightmare of a dream house,” the logline reads.

Along with it being largely improvised and Prime’s first multi-camera series, DINKS also has a novel financing model, bringing in studios, a streamer and an ad agency in Publicis from the outset.

“Premium storytelling increasingly requires creative partnerships that bring together expertise from across industries,” said Eric Levin, chief creative officer for Publicis Media Content Innovation. “This model combines strategic capital with development expertise to provide an alternative path to green light, enabling high-quality projects to move forward in an increasingly competitive marketplace. We believe the future of television financing will be driven by partnerships that are as innovative as the content they support, and we’re excited to be able to bring this exclusively to Publicis clients.”

Kauffman and Canter wrote the pilot episode, which Amazon MGM ordered back in April 2024. Kauffman is the showrunner and executive produces with Canter, Robbie Rowe Tollin, Jesse Schiller, Raphael and Scheer.
