In Our Baby Is Born Again, actress Park Bomi and ex-soccer player Park Yohan, who are married, shared their emotions following the loss of their first son, Simon, to heaven.
Park Bo-mi, who is known for her roles in the K-dramas Extracurricular and Mr Sunshine, shared about a very tragic loss in her family at the variety show Our Baby Is Born Again (shortened to Oaagi), which was broadcast on the 28th by TV CHOSUN, highlighting Park Bomi and Park Yohan. The couple, introduced by actress Lee Yerim, who was in the same agency as Park Bomi, got married in 2020 after dating for roughly a year. They became parents in 2022 when they welcomed their first son, Simon. However, Simon passed away when he was only 15 months old, causing a lot of heartache.

During filming, Park Bomi was 34 weeks into her pregnancy with their second daughter, named Seolboki (fetal name). She managed a smile and started, “Our Simon truly enjoyed talking. He genuinely wanted to do it even more. Certainly, it was difficult and heartbreaking, yet he was a child we were immensely proud of and wanted to brag about it,” she continued, saying, “The hospital could not determine the reason. The exact cause of death remains unknown. The hospital tried every possible way to save him. It wasn’t even a fever disorder, but they were unable to identify the reason.” Park Bo-mi shared that Simon had been playing until the day prior. However, a sudden fever wouldn’t go down despite using alternating fever reducers, and then, Park Bomi went to the pediatrician and the emergency room in turn, but he became limp in the car while en route to the emergency room. Even though his heart resumed beating after approximately 40 minutes of work in the emergency room, he remained unconscious and passed away after a week in the intensive care unit. Park Bomi remembered, “I believe Simon’s heart began again to allow his mom and dad some time.”
Park Yohan regrets
Park Yohan cried even more, feeling guilty that he couldn’t be by Simon’s side often due to a hectic regional match schedule. He remembered, “I believe the most depressing moment was three days before my match. After that, I was in Namhae, and we were doing video calls. Yet Simon cried. He usually didn’t cry, but for some reason, he did that day. Park Bomi stated, “Looking back, I realised that Simon truly wished to meet his dad.”

Park Bomi said, “I learned that most babies don’t usually have a three-day funeral.” Yet, I listened to different tales, and I wanted a three-day funeral. I wanted more people to see Simon. Since Simon enjoyed swimming, we held a seaside funeral, and it was very lovely. Rain was in the forecast for that day, but when we went to scatter Simon’s ashes at sea, the skies were clear. Our family courageously bid him farewell, believing Simon reached heaven safely. Park Bomi stated, “I returned home, opened the wardrobe, and continued to weep.” It had the scent of Simon, but Simon was absent.” Getting emotional, then continued, “Following that incident, I got an overwhelming amount of messages. More individuals than I anticipated had experienced the same situation, and they offered support daily. I believed that helping just one of those individuals would be worthwhile. “Then Simon would be engaged in something positive and we would feel extremely proud.”
Following a fifth cycle of in vitro fertilisation because of infertility, Park Bomi, who is now expecting their second child, remarked, “Our initial aim was to have four kids.” However, due to our age, we are considering having only Seolboki’s younger sibling. That’s the reason we preserved Simon’s clothing. Everything was Simon’s, the car seat and all. Typically, individuals attempt to remove those memories, but I despised that.
Ultimately, a video was presented featuring Park Bomi giving birth to a healthy second daughter named ‘Seolboki’ on the 2nd. Her name is Sieun. Park Bomi and Park Yohan said tearfully, “Sieun, we adore you, and Simon, in a month, a lovely younger sibling will arrive, so please watch over us from above.”
