Drishyam 3 Ending Explained: What’s Next For Mohanlal’s Drishyam 4?

There are very few characters in Indian cinema who have managed to remain as fascinating, unpredictable, and morally complex as Georgekutty. Over three films, audiences have watched him transform from an ordinary family man into a legend of sorts – a man capable of anticipating every move, manipulating every narrative, and staying several steps ahead of an entire system determined to expose him. Drishyam 3, however, ends on a rather surprising note!

Before you move ahead, and we discuss all the possibilities of the next part and how the film ends, I would like to suggest that you stay away from this discussion if you have not watched the film yet. A. You will not get most of the points since it is too twisted and it will spoil your fun of watching the film! For the rest of us, let us dissect the end of this suspense thriller!

Drishyam 3 ends with Georgekutty’s surrender. But right before that Mohanlal‘s character argues and admits that he knows what he is capable and that is why is he chooses to surrender! In the first two parts, we have seen him as a desperate father, trying to protect his daughter and family! But by the third part, he has turned into a sly criminal who knows how to manipulate the law whenever he wants, wherever he wants!

Georgekutty’s apparent surrender, his emotional state throughout the film, has left me asking one major question: Did karma finally catch up with him, or was this yet another masterstroke from a man who has spent years controlling every aspect of his story? The answer lies somewhere in the middle.

One of the most interesting aspects of Drishyam 3 is that the film subtly shifts the conflict away from the investigation itself. In the first film, the threat came from the police. In the second film, the threat came from the possibility of old secrets resurfacing. By the time we reach the third installment, however, the real conflict feels far more internal.

Georgekutty is still intelligent. He is still observant. He is still capable of reading situations better than most people around him. But for perhaps the first time in the franchise, he also looks tired. Years of living with a secret have taken their toll. The fear of exposure may have diminished, but the emotional burden has only grown heavier.

The final act of Drishyam 3 revolves around what appears to be Georgekutty finally surrendering. On the surface, this moment feels shocking because it contradicts everything audiences have come to expect from him. This is the same man who built intricate traps, manipulated timelines, anticipated investigations, and repeatedly outsmarted people who underestimated him.

Why would someone like Georgekutty suddenly stop fighting? The simplest interpretation is that he has finally accepted the inevitability of consequences. He finally wanted to end this chase once and for all! Over the course of three films, he has protected his family at an enormous personal cost. Every victory has required another lie. Every escape has demanded another sacrifice.

While Georgekutty fought hard with his family, he forgot that everyone has a family and everyone would fight for their family! His surrender can therefore be seen as an act of acceptance rather than defeat. For years, audiences have debated whether Georgekutty deserved punishment or sympathy. The brilliance of the franchise has always been its refusal to offer easy moral answers.

The film repeatedly emphasizes how deeply the incident has affected everyone involved. The scars are no longer physical or legal; they are psychological. Georgekutty may have won every battle against the system, but he has never truly escaped the memory of what happened. This is where karma enters the conversation.

Not the kind of karma delivered through handcuffs or courtroom verdicts, but the quieter kind that manifests as guilt, regret, and emotional fatigue. The ending suggests that some consequences cannot be avoided, no matter how intelligent or resourceful a person might be.

Is This What Georgekutty Wants Us To Believe?

Of course, there is another possibility. After spending three films watching Georgekutty outsmart everyone around him, many viewers find it difficult to accept the idea that he would simply surrender without a plan. And honestly, the film encourages that suspicion. The final scenes are filled with ambiguity. Georgekutty remains remarkably composed. His actions appear deliberate rather than impulsive. This raises an intriguing question: what if the surrender itself is part of a larger strategy?

The Drishyam franchise has always relied on the audience making assumptions before revealing a hidden layer of truth. It would not be surprising if Drishyam 3 has used the same technique, setting up the premise for Drishyam 4.

If Georgekutty’s surrender is genuine, Drishyam 4 could explore the aftermath of finally confronting the truth. Such a story would shift the franchise away from suspense and toward the emotional core. On the other hand, if the surrender is another deception, the next film could reveal an entirely new layer to Georgekutty’s master plan. And that might be his greatest trick of all.
