Sunjay Kapur’s sister Mandhira has made some shocking claims about his marriage to Karisma Kapoor and the reasons behind their divorce. Read on to know more.
The news of industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s sudden demise in June 2025 shocked everyone. But even more shocking was the family dispute that erupted over his estate, estimated to be worth Rs 30,000 crore. Meanwhile, Karisma Kapoor has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking her children’s rights. Meanwhile, Sunjay’s sister, Mandira Kapur Smith, has made new revelations which have been headlines. In a conversation with journalist Vickey Lalwani, Mandira made serious allegations against Sunjay’s wife, Priya Sachdev. She claims that Priya was the reason for the breakdown of Sunjay and Karisma’s marriage. She explained that Sunjay and Priya first met on a flight, and since then, she has been unhappy with their relationship.

Mandira said,”Lolo (Karisma) and Sanjay, my brother, were in a good place, actually. Kian was born. My brother was obsessed with his kids. I think for another woman to not care about a woman who’s just had a child is in bad taste. To come and disrupt a family is in bad taste. You don’t break up a marriage that is trying to work on keeping a family together.” Mandira further explained that her late father had also strongly opposed Sunjay and Priya’s relationship. He had clearly stated that Sunjay could not marry her and did not even want to see her face. Furthermore, he had also stated that this relationship should not have children. Mandira confirmed that neither she nor her sister attended Sunjay and Priya’s wedding in New York in 2017.
Mandira also admitted in the conversation that she regrets not supporting Karisma Kapoor. She explained that she was not on speaking terms with Karisma during that period, and Karisma was upset with her because of this. Mandira said, “I think she (Karisma) was obviously upset with me as well. And I don’t blame her. I feel bad because she was my best friend. I wish I’d taken a stronger stand for her. Lolo did not deserve what came to her.”

Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapoor married in 2003. They have two children, Samaira and Kiaan. However, after a long legal battle, they divorced in 2016. The following year, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev.
