Spain defeated Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on Sunday.

Spain won the match by a score of 1-0 after the game went into extra time. Ferran Torres scored the only goal of the match.

This marks only the second time Spain has won the soccer football competition. It also took the crown in 2010, defeating the Netherlands by a score of 1-0.

The game was also notable as it marked Argentina superstar Lionel Messi’s third time starting in a World Cup final. He’s the only man to have achieved that feat.

Mexico and Canada also served as hosts for the 2026 World Cup, marking the first time in history that three teams have hosted the competition. The 2030 World Cup will not only be hosted by three nations — Morocco, Portugal and Spain — but it also will take place on three continents, another first, as the opening three matches will be played in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.

Sunday’s final was played at MetLife Stadium (which was referred to as New York New Jersey Stadium for the tournament), located in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The NFL stadium is home to the New York Giants and the New York Jets.

The game was broadcast on Fox and Telemundo.
