The 2025 American Music Awards are underway and the winners are being announced live.

After dozens of A-listers walked the purple carpet, host Jennifer Lopez opened the Monday night show with an electric performance, dancing to some of the biggest hits from this past year, 23 songs in six minutes to be exact.

“Tonight, the spotlight belongs to you because this is the world’s largest fan voting award show where you decide the winners,” Lopez told the crowd during her monologue after the performance. “And this year, yes, there were more votes than ever before.”

Some of the night’s early winners included SZA for favorite R&B song for “Saturn” and favorite female R&B artist, Becky G for favorite female Latin artist and Gracie Abrams for best new artist.

Janet Jackson, who received the Icon Award, also showed the audience how much of an icon she really is, performing a medley of some of her biggest hits throughout her career, including “Someone to Call My Lover” and “All for You.”

“I’m so grateful. I mean, no disrespect in any way, but I don’t consider myself an icon. My family, myself, our dream wasn’t ever to be famous; we weren’t raised like that,” Jackson said during her speech following her performance. “We always had a special love for music, dancing and singing, and fame came with the result of hard work and dedication.”

Heading into the ceremony, Kendrick Lamar was leading the nominees with 10, with Post Malone following with eight nods, and Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan and Shaboozey with seven AMA nominations each. Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen, Sabrina Carpenter, SZA and Taylor Swift also each earned six nominations.

As for performers, Lopez, Benson Boone, Blake Shelton, Gloria Estefan, Gwen Stefani, Lainey Wilson and Reneé Rapp are set to take to the stage. Awards will also be presented by Alix Earle, Cara Delevingne, Ciara, Dan + Shay, Dylan Efron, Jordan Chiles, Kai Cenat, Megan Moroney, Nikki Glaser, Shaboozey, Tiffany Haddish and Wayne Brady, among others.

Rod Stewart will also perform and receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 2025 AMAs, which are voted entirely by fans, are airing live from Las Vegas on Memorial Day, May 26, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on the CBS Television Network and Paramount+
