Michelle Pfeiffer is not ready to walk away from Hollywood just yet.
The French Exit actress revealed that she will not be retiring during an appearance on The Tonight Show on Thursday after previously claiming that she “never” wanted to “star in another movie.”
“No … I mean, it’s the most ridiculous thing,” she said when host Jimmy Fallon asked her about retirement. “They’re always saying I’m retiring. Where does it say I’m retiring?”
Fallon reminded Pfeiffer that she “hinted” at walking away from film earlier this month when she spoke at THR x Apple TV’s Leading the Narrative: The Women of Apple TV event.
“I never want to star in another movie, I swear to God. I only want to do ensemble pieces,” she said at the time. “It’s so much more fun, I love it so much.”
Pfeiffer explained to Fallon that her previous comments were “taken out of context.”
“All that I said was that I really love working with an ensemble cast,” the Batman actress shared, to which Fallon responded, “Did you know you would get in trouble when you said that?”
“I knew the minute it came out of my mouth,” Pfeiffer said. “Of course, I want to star in another movie.”
Pfeiffer received critical acclaim for her TV performances this year in Apple TV’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles and Paramount+’s The Madison. The actress received an Emmy nomination for her role in Money Troubles, which she also executive produced. Both series have been renewed for additional seasons.
“It’s wonderful to be able to live with a character for such an extended period of time and you can really just go deeper and find all of the different layers,” Pfeiffer said about working with an ensemble. “But it’s also really wonderful and most important to me that I get to work with all of this talent.”
A three-time Oscar nominee, Pfeiffer is a celebrated film actress whose movie credits include Dangerous Liaisons, Batman Returns, Scarface, Hairspray, The Fabulous Baker Boys, The Age of Innocence and the Ant-Man trilogy.
