In a change of plans, Los Angeles’ Olympic Organizing Committee is moving the International Broadcast Center for the 2028 Summer Games from Inglewood to Burbank.
The move marks a different tack for LA28, which had announced last May that the in-development Hollywood Park Studios in Inglewood would be the home of the media hub, where rights holders ranging from NBCUniversal to Warner Bros. Discovery and others would have bases set up for operations.
The reevaluation and final approval to move over to Warner Bros.’ The Ranch in Burbank was made by the executive board of the International Olympic Committee in June. Preparations to create the International Broadcast Center campus will begin in January 2027, with the center being able to have access to 16 soundstages at The Ranch.
“Being confirmed by LA28 affirms the intention behind this world-class campus and hosting the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games’ International Broadcast Center is both an honor and a reflection of Warner Bros.’ leadership in serving the creative community as we continue building on more than a century of storytelling expertise,” stated Simon Robinson, Warner Bros. Discovery’s President of Global Experiences and Studio Operations.
In its own statement, LA28 described the use of the under construction Hollywood Park Studios in Inglewood as a supplement to the International Broadcast Center to support operations but not as the main base. Rams owner Stan Kroenke unveiled plans in May of last year for Hollywood Park Studios to be built next to SoFi Stadium, YouTube Theater and the NFL Media office building. The site is planned to be situated on 12 acres, with five 18,000 square foot soundstages in the works.
LA28, led by chairperson Casey Wasserman, had previously said that it expected up to 8,000 broadcasters using the center as the Summer Games get underway in the city. Now those broadcasters will be set up at Warner Bros., which formally opened The Ranch as a major studio lot expansion in March.
“The Ranch will be an incredible home for the International Broadcast Center, offering a purpose-built production campus for Media Rights Holders and Olympic Broadcasting Services to capture and share the defining moments of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” added Shana Ferguson, LA28 chief of sport and games delivery officer. “We look forward to welcoming the global broadcast community to Los Angeles in 2028.”
