Tate McRae Earns First Grammy Nomination, ‘So Close to What’ Shut Out

Tate McRae has received her first Grammy nomination — but it’s not for what you’d think.

On Friday morning, McRae received one Grammy nom: best dance pop recording for “Just Keep Watching” from the movie F1, starring Brad Pitt. The singer took to her Instagram Stories on Friday afternoon to share her excitement, writing, “Grammy nominated!!!!!! Thank u!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @recordingacademy.” The tune also scored her VMA wins for song of the summer and best editing in September.

She is nominated at the 2026 Grammy Awards alongside Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco for “Bluest Flame,” Lady Gaga for “Abracadabra,” Zara Larsson for “Midnight Sun” and PinkPantheress for “Illegal.”

The solo nod comes as a surprise — not because of the track itself, but because her third studio album, So Close to What, was completely shut out this year. That album is also her most successful one to date, as it nabbed her first No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 Chart. The record, released on Feb. 21, features singles “Revolving Door,” “It’s OK I’m OK” and “Sports Car.” Its promotional run also saw notable performances on SNL, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and the VMAs.

And it might also seem like the 21-year-old singer was snubbed for best new artist. However, she wasn’t eligible for that category, since McRae had already been submitted three times, which is the limit.

Now, the Canadian-born performer is finishing out her So Close to What world tour, set to conclude on Saturday, Nov. 8, in Inglewood, Calif., after the 81-show tour began on March 18, in Mexico City. And the setlist added her most recent — and rumored breakup — track “Tit for Tat.”
