Popular veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, who’s best known for his known for his portrayal of Karna in B.R. Chopra’s Mahabharat, has reportedly passed away after a long battle with cancer. She’s known to millions as Karna. Dheer became one of Indian television’s most beloved faces during the late 1980s and 1990s. His powerful performance left such an impact that, even decades later, fans still associate the actor with the mythological hero.
A Legacy That Goes Beyond Mahabharat
Pankaj Dheer’s career went far beyond his role in Mahabharat. He also appeared in various popular TV shows such as Chandrakanta, The Great Maratha, Yug, and Badho Bahu, each time leaving a lasting impression. He also featured in films like Sadak, Soldier, and Baadshah.
His portrayal of Karna became so iconic that images of Dheer as the warrior were used in school textbooks, and in regions like Karnal and Bastar, statues modelled after his Karna are even worshipped, a rare honour for any TV actor.
He was More Than an Actor
Beyond his acting, Pankaj Dheer was also a successful entrepreneur and mentor to many. In 2006, he co-founded Visage Studioz in Mumbai’s Jogeshwari with his brother Satluj Dheer, providing space for film and TV shoots.
Later, in 2010, he also launched the Abbhinnay Acting Academy, with his Mahabharat co-star Gufi Paintal as the head of faculty, nurturing and guiding young actors. Pankaj Dheer leaves behind a legacy of dedication, grace, and timeless performances.
