A note from Scott: We are now just 10 days away from the June 12 start of the nominations round of voting to determine this year’s Primetime Emmy nominees.

Last week, a number of contenders trekked to Austin for the ATX TV Festival, which ran May 29-June 1. And this week, even more will head to Newport Beach for the inaugural Newport Beach TV Fest, including three with whom I will be recording podcasts: Kate Hudson of Netflix’s Running Point on June 5, Adam Brody of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This on June 6 and Sam Rockwell of HBO/HBO Max’s The White Lotus on June 8. (Seating is limited, so get your tickets now!)

Speaking of the podcast, be sure to check out a really special episode — just posted — that I recorded with Sean Evans, the host of YouTube’s Hot Ones, in front of, and ultimately with, students enrolled in a course that I teach at Chapman University called “The Art of the Interview” — an art that the 39-year-old practices beautifully, if unconventionally, and that might well result in his show’s first nomination in the best talk series category in which it first became eligible only last year.

Finally, keep an eye on Sunday night’s Tony Awards, which will air nationally on CBS and stream on Paramount+, as Cynthia Erivo, an Emmy contender for Peacock’s Poker Face, will be hosting, and quite a few other Emmy hopefuls are likely to show up as presenters, undoubtedly hoping that a moment in the national spotlight ahead of June 12 will put them over the top!

Remember: You can bookmark this page and return to it for Scott’s latest picks. Excepting holidays and breaking news events, it will be updated on Mondays. Think of Scott like a meteorologist: his aim is to forecast what will happen, not to advocate for what he thinks should happen. His projections are arrived at by screening shows, analyzing campaigns, consulting voters and referencing history.
