Legendary actor Kamal Haasan and veteran director Mani Ratnam are back after 28 years of Nayakan with a new film. Director Mani Ratnam, known for his evergreen films like Dil Se, Guru, PS-I, etc., confirmed in a press conference on Monday that he is making a comeback in the film industry with Kamal Haasan in a new high-octane action-thriller, Thug Life.
In the press conference for Thug Life, South Indian superstar Kamal Haasan, co-actor Abhirami, and Mani Ratnam got candid and answered many questions, revealing details about this much-awaited film. When asked about Thug Life being such a huge project and the first thought that came to mind regarding it, Mani Ratnam said, “Thank God it’s over. I think when you have a dream that walks with you and you’re willing to run with it, and you have all your leading actors ready to do whatever is required for the film, and when you have Kamal Haasan here, it’s a pleasure.”
When asked about his return to the capital city, Delhi, and the response he received from his fans, Kamal Haasan said, “Well, I only return love with love, not just things. This was a very historical film that I’m proud of personally. I’m happy to be here; I’m very proud of my capital. We are here again, and destiny brought us here. We have finished the film, and, as I said, he’s grateful that it’s over. For me, it begins now. I am eager now; he’s done his job. I want to see whether I have done my job or not.”
When questioned about the challenges of shooting a high-octane action film like Thug Life, Kamal Haasan, who also wrote the script, replied, “To be honest, the previous film logistically was even a worse nightmare because he (Mani Ratnam) had to work with various kinds of animals. But the animals in this movie, he’s used to, especially me.”
Thug Life is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 5, 2025.
