When Dharmendra got angry with Rajesh Khanna’s casting in Anand
Anand movie was one of the most successful films in Rajesh Khanna‘s filmography. But there was one actor who was mighty upset with his casting. We are talking about the He-Man, Dharmendra. When the Sholay actor appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show in 2019, he revealed that he had drunk-dialled filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee after he got to know that he cast Rajesh Khanna instead of him in Anand. The actor shared why. He mentioned that the filmmaker had narrated the story of Anand to him when on a flight and he wanted to be a part of the film. But when the filmmaker roped in Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra got angry. The revealed that he drunk-dialled Hrishikesh and spoke about the film. Dharmendra added, “I didn’t let Hrishida sleep the whole night. I told him, ‘You were going to give me the role, you told me the story, then why did you give him the film?’”
Dharmendra further shared that Hrishikesh Mukherjee asked him to cut the call and go to sleep. However, he would keep calling him again.
Anand movie released in 1971 starred Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna in lead roles. The movie received immense praise from all corners. Even today, Anand is considered to be a Bollywood classic. Its songs Kahin Door Jab, Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli and more are still cherished by Bollywood lovers.
