Jay-Z Accused of Raping Girl; Rapper Says It Is a ‘Blackmail Attempt’

Jay-Z has been accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 in a lawsuit that also alleges Sean “Diddy” Combs took part in the act, according to NBC News.

For his part, the rapper-mogul — whose real name is Shawn Carter — responded that the claims are “idiotic” and part of a “blackmail attempt.”

In the lawsuit, the accuser, identified only as “Jane Doe,” alleges Carter and Combs raped her at a house party after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, which took place in New York, NBC News reported.

The lawsuit, which was first filed in October in the Southern District of New York, originally listed Combs as a defendant. It was refiled Sunday to include Carter. Attorney Tony Buzbee, who filed the suit, also has filed numerous suits against Combs in the past several months.

Buzbee wrote that “Carter received a letter from Plaintiff’s counsel requesting a mediation to resolve this matter” before the lawsuit was refiled and that Carter had filed his own lawsuit against the accuser’s attorneys.

For his part, Carter posted via his company Roc Nation’s X account on Sunday that the letter from Buzbee was a “blackmail attempt.”

“What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle,” he wrote in a lengthy post. “No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion. So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!! These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree? These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case.”

He went on to says he’s “done a bit of research” on Buzbee and that he has a “pattern of these types of theatrics.” He also called him “deplorable” and that he was feeling “heartbreak” for his wife, Beyoncé, and their three kids.

He added that doesn’t “play these types of games.”

“Only your network of conspiracy theorists … will believe the idiotic claims you have levied against me that, if not for the seriousness surrounding harm to kids, would be laughable,” he continued.

Shortly after Roc Nation posted on X, Buzbee put up his own post on Instagram that didn’t mention anyone by name but alleged he’s been getting threats as a result of the lawsuits he’s filed. The post included a photo of him in a military uniform with the caption: “Recognize this guy? This is a picture of the Weapons Platoon Commander, Alpha Company, First Battalion, Fourth Marines from our old Western Pacific cruise book. Despite a coordinated and aggressive effort that has included harassing my kids, contacting my clients and former clients to encourage them to sue me, contacting my colleagues or former employees asking if I’ve ‘abused’ them, showing up at my current employees’ homes to harass them, filing frivolous cases against me and my law firm, defaming me with outrageous assertions to anyone who will listen, and having mysterious people follow me and my family, I’m still THAT guy. I won’t be bullied or intimidated. People will see through this effort to discredit me and my clients and the truth will be revealed. I also won’t allow anyone to scare my clients into silence. Sunlight is the best disinfectant and I am quite certain the sun is coming.”

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Jay-Z’s rep. Combs, who has denied all allegations against him, is currently in custody at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting trial, which is scheduled to begin May 5.

In the lawsuit, the accuser claims that she was dropped off at Radio City Music Hall, where the VMAs were being held, despite not having a ticket. She was trying to score entry into the ceremony or the afterparty when a limousine driver told her he worked for Combs and that she “fit what Diddy was looking for,” the lawsuit states.

After being driven to a party, she was asked to sign a document she believed was a nondisclosure agreement to enter the bash, where celebrities and others were doing marijuana and cocaine. There, she was offered a drink that made her feel “woozy, lightheaded and felt [like] she needed to lie down,” the suit says. She went into a room to rest; the lawsuit alleges that Combs and Carter entered the room. “You are ready to party!” Combs allegedly said.

She alleges that Carter then took her clothes off, pinned her down and raped her, and that Combs and an unnamed female celebrity allegedly watched. She alleges that Combs also raped her as Carter and the woman watched.

She additionally alleges that Combs was trying to force her to perform oral sex on him but she was able to prevent that from happening by hitting him in the neck. The accuser claims that after the alleged assault, she “grabbed her clothes” and left; she found a gas station and called her dad.

The accuser is seeking unspecified damages.
